Aeration
Lawn Aeration is the process of creating many holes in your Lawn or Sports Turf surface that helps to relieve Compaction as well as improving Drainage.

By Aerating your Turf this will allow Fresh Oxygen into the Root Zone at the same time as allowing Carbon Dioxide out.

Shire Lawns can carry out this essential Lawn Maintenance by using a Professional Graded Machine that uses Solid Tines.
These Solid Tines that leave a Spiked effect on your Lawn can also be adjusted to create Hollow Tines, which will remove Cores from your Turf. This process is known as Core Aeration. The cores on the Shire Lawn Aerator can reach depths up to 9cm.
What is Compaction?
Soil Compaction can be a common problem in Herefordshire due to our Clay Soils and Sports Turf alike.
Foot traffic and weather conditions being two other major factors causing Compaction, this reduces pore space and increases soil density.

This reduces the all-important air, water and nutrient movement within the soil meaning roots, unable to breathe, struggle to penetrate through the compacted layer therefore leaving the Lawn/Sports Turf looking unhealthy and turf appearance will rapidly decline.
Why should Shire Lawns Aerate my Lawn/Sports Turf?
A Compacted Lawn or Sports Turf will only result in poor appearance.

Lawn Aeration will relieve Compaction, creating Air-Space which will encourage healthier growing conditions. For many Lawn Lovers, Greenkeepers and Grounds People, Aeration is an essential part of any Ground Care routine, particularly on our Herefordshire Clay Soils! Clay being made of very fine particles is prone to compaction in the Summers and Waterlogging following heavy rainfall. This prevents Air, Water and Nutrients from reaching the root zone leading to shallow root zones and reduced drought resistance.

By Aerating your Lawns or Sports Turf at regular intervals, using our Machinery, Knowledge, experience and Training, we at Shire Lawns will;
